Amoxicillin (Mormox) is a penicillin antibiotic. Penicillin antibiotics work against bacterial infections. Some bacteria can break down amoxicillin so that it can no longer work. Clavulanic acid counteracts this and thus improves the effect of amoxicillin. Amoxicillin with clavulanic acid therefore kills more types of bacteria than amoxicillin alone.
Respiratory infections ( pneumonia, acute bronchitis (inflammation of part of the airways), middle ear infection, sinus infection, sore throat due to laryngitis).
Skin infections and infections deep in the skin , such as erysipelas, glans inflammation, infections from bite wounds and infections of the nail bed.
Cystitis , also kidney inflammation and prostatitis.
Infections in bones and joints such as bone marrow inflammation.
Amoxicillin kills many types of bacteria. Clavulanic acid enhances the effect of amoxicillin. Amoxicillin with clavulanic acid therefore kills more types of bacteria than amoxicillin alone.
After ingestion, the drug spreads throughout your body through the blood. It ends up almost everywhere in the body and also in the urine. It can therefore be used for all kinds of infections, if the bacteria is sensitive to amoxicillin with clavulanic acid. Even if the bacteria is in hard-to-reach places, such as an inflammation in the heart or the heart valves.
Amoxicillin with clavulanic acid is also used to prevent infections during surgery.
The drug is also used to prevent infection in people who are more likely to have complications from an infection. Such as people without a spleen, people with an artificial heart valve and people with an artificial joint. They often also receive this medicine as a precaution if they have to undergo surgery or major research.
